The fabric disappear.
Its structure is preserved in ceramic.

Higa’s practice explores the transformation of textile into ceramic. Although the fabric disappears during firing, its soft texture remains, preserved in ceramic.

By transforming a soft material into something hard yet fragile, she expresses the delicacy and transience of the human heart.

Her rabbit series depicts herself wearing a rabbit costume — a figure that reflects the desire to protect oneself from others, while still longing to connect with them.

A little piece to carry with you

During the making of Higa’s ceramic rabbits, small pieces of textile and clay naturally fall away.

These fragments are collected and preserved in small glass vessels — each one a unique trace of the artist’s process.
